About MAPS
The MAPS Scholarship Foundation Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing graduating Old Orchard Beach High School seniors with scholarships. The MAPS Scholarship Foundation is comprised of retired educators and former students from Old Orchard Beach who aspire to support the continuing education of OOB High School students.
The Mission
The mission of MAPS Scholarship Foundation, Inc. is to provide scholarships for Old Orchard Beach High School graduating seniors. MAPS currently awards sixteen $1000 scholarships to students who are continuing their education.
The History
The MAPS Scholarship Foundation, Inc. is the creation of founder Louis Ladakakos. Its mission is to provide scholarships for Old Orchard Beach High School Seniors at their graduation. The acronym "MAPS" stands for the third letter in the surnames of four dedicated and revered educators from Old Orchard Beach:
MAPS evolved from Mr. Ladakakos' energies and vision. He initiated the "Breakaway Race", a course accredited by the U.S. Track and Field Association, in 1996. The Foundation consists of board members who oversee raising funds and awarding scholarships. They are: Bobby Burns, Jamie Chamberlain, Rori Crossman Dargie, Peter Flaherty, Stuart Hogan, Glenn Jones, Louis Ladakakos, Michele Marshall, Donna Stearns and Roger Tousignant.
